Why does a person create music? This was the simple, yet profound question five, very different musicians together in Stockholm asked themselves in the Fall of 2002.
Through sharing stories of individual influences, favourites were; the Clash, Killing Joke, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen and the melancholy of Jeff Buckley and Interpol was mentioned. This quickly ignited a passionate collaboration between the five; a new band now united with a fervour to create a unique sound that would combine all their inspirations.
The result is an immense, ethereal indie rock that will comfortably deliver in large arenas and when experienced live, will easily answer United’s original question.
The band eagerly began recording its debut album upon its return to Sweden. Also at this time, an earlier EP release on vinyl (Vesper Records) began to rapidly gain attention and Placebo asked United to join them at a sold-out Brixton Academy in London.
United’s debut video for the exemplary song, “Made For Us”, was recorded in the Fall of 2005. It was directed by the renowned Håkan Schüler, who has also worked with the Backyard Babies, Mando Diao and Nicolai Dunger among others. The result is beautifully layered in atmosphere; a synergy generated through sound and vision.
The success of the track “Friends Unknown” on European radio has also recently resulted in the inclusion of the track on a Polish compilation released by Universal music, including the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club,
PJ Harvey, Radio 4 and Charlatans.
The debut album, ”Slick”, was released earlier in 2005 and has provoked the hearts and minds of sensitive people all over the world, including in Poland, Germany, Brazil, Canada, Australia, France and England, uniting them with its poignant lyrics and heart-warming melodies.
The album was recorded and produced by Pierre Lindsjöö (Caesars) and mixed by Carl-Michael Herlöfsson (Rammstein, Baxter, Weeping Willows).
